Many conversations that we have with clients begin with a discussion about Facebook’s Pixel technology. Pixel is “A piece of code for your website that lets you measure, optimize and build audiences for your ad campaigns.” In practice the Facebook Pixel is the key to getting more out of Facebook and Instagram analytics. It’s a simple piece of code – not hard to implement – that tracks traffic from your ads and promoted content back to your website. And it may also be the most important first step to gaining control of our digital marketing campaigns.
How To Create Facebook Pixel
First, make sure your website is hosted on a platform that allows you to add JavaScript code.
Next, you need to have a Facebook Business Manager account. The account is free. If you already have one, go ahead and sign in.
Once you are in logged into Business Manager, expand the menu. Under Events Manager, click on Pixels.
If you don’t have any existing pixel, Facebook will display the Create a Pixel button at this point. Click the button and follow the guided steps.
If you already have existing pixel(s), you will not see the button. Instead, you need to click on the drop down “Add Data Source” and select “Facebook Pixel.”
A popup Create a Facebook Pixel modal will appear. Give the pixel a name. Let’s call it “My Facebook Pixel.” Though not required, provide your website URL anyway if you have one.
When ready, click Create to finish creating the pixel. Congratulations – you just created a Facebook Pixel!
